UK Broadband Position to Improve- Telewest Speaks.
The UK will have better broadband speeds in the coming years, according to NTL Telewest.
Head of business markets at NTL Telewest, Andrew Beckhaus, said that while it is true Britain currently lags behind in broadband speeds, this will be changing.
“We expect to see the UK rise up the charts for broadband speeds over the next two years and become one of the top broadband countries. People want high speeds from their broadband, and providers like ourselves are meeting these demands,” he said.
Richard Thurston, an analyst at Analysys Mason, who also spoke about this, agrees. “Broadband speeds in the UK are on the verge of rising and homes and businesses that receive the new broadband will see a vast improvement in their services,” he said.
Beckhaus said NTL Telewest Business has already started rolling out 20Mbit/s cable modem services and the demand has been stronger than anticipated.
NTL Telewest is also working on fibre connections of 50Mbit/s and testing even higher speeds for next-generation broadband access as businesses will need this faster service to run a more effective business.
“The benefits of high-speed internet access for things like cloud computing and unified communications are becoming increasingly popular as IT managers look to use their networks more effectively and efficiently,” said Beckhaus.
