Tips to prevent pipes from bursting

Cold weather is forecast again in the coming days and with that, Direct Line Home Insurance has offered consumers advice on how to prevent their pipes from bursting.
The company saw claims for water damage increase by a third during the first two weeks of this year, so they have issued some help to homeowners to stop them from becoming victims of leaking water.
The firm advised that keeping loft spaces well insulated will stop pipes from becoming too cold during frosty conditions.
Having the heating on at a low level will also help to keep water circulating through the system and stop it from freezing over, it added.

Ensuring that everyone in the house knows where the stopcock is and how to operate it could also help to prevent severe damage from occurring should the worst happen, the company said.

At the start of the year, Direct Line announced it would offer its customers 12 months of home insurance cover for the price of nine, including free emergency cover, which is available until March 31st.
