Reviewing Finances Could Save Consumers up to £4,000 this year

According to popular consumer website Money Supermarket, consumers who are willing to do some research and put the work into a comprehensive financial review could see themselves saving as much as four thousand pounds this year.

And that’s without making any large alterations to their current lifestyles, either. So if you still want to use your car just as much, surf the net just as often and use the same amount of electricity and gas, you can do so without having to change anything. Instead, you can make the savings by making sure you are on the very best deals that you’re currently a part of.

If you’ve already got a good credit history moves like switching finances and consolidating debt on a zero rate credit card can save hundreds of pounds a year, for example.

Another big way many people save is on utilities. Switching to dual fuel to pay both your electricity and gas bill and setting the payments to run through the direct debit system can net consumers a saving over £300 for the year, which is certainly not to be sniffed at.

You can make similar savings on everything from car insurance to your broadband bill, providing you are willing to put the time in and be open and honest about your finances for the year.

Money Supermarket site editor Clare Francis said:

“People should review their finances on a regular basis and the turn of year is a great trigger to do just that.”

Money Supermarket has also predicted that 2010 would remain a difficult year for people relying on credit and that only people with an already good credit history will be able to find the very best deals.

Will you be making it your new year’s resolution to save money by swapping over your bills or does it feel like more effort than it’s worth?
